My First Knitting Project

I luv it, it is so fun. I recently learned how to knit through the combined efforts of my friend from Germany, my friend from Finland and my mama from down the lane. It has been a lot of fun. I learned to knit the continental way and have come to learn there are many variations to way people knit. I started out this, my first project small, I was going to make a scarflet (a very narrow scarf that just goes around your neck). Well I got excited casting on and decided I would have to make something else, because of course I didn't wanted to rip it out. So it became a capelet, Yes I like words with let on the end. :) Now the problem arose that I didn't have enough yarn that really matched to complete the project. (I recently bought yarn from a second hand store that supports a battered women's organization, that is how I rationalized buying so much). It was a very nice quality wool yarn but didn't really go together much, so I improvised, I continued knitting with two strands of different yarn and carried the purple mohair throughout. I did random stripes and random knits and pearls to go with the whole mismatched theme. My mamma taught me how to crochet a ruffle on the end, again with a different yarn and to felt a flower. So now it is complete with a vintage button and all. I am wearing it now while I type and can't wait to start on my next project, considering legwarmers using four needles, must challenge myself you know.

Views from my Laptop

Well after the big snow the other day, it has turned cold, 3 degrees to be exact. I can't complain though, my kids are home from school, the fire is going and these are the views out my window while sitting at my laptop.

Whew... I am Finished

I just finished a commission piece, it is on a 3x4 foot canvas. That is a lot of paint. I have used a new technique that I really like, lots of bold strokes and a spray bottle of water. I love the effect. This piece is of flowers called Bitterrroots, they are the Montana state flower. The more common variety are pink but to go with the clients decor we went with the more rare white ones. Even though the flowers are white the painting is definitley not lack in color, I had a lot of fun with the background. I hung it on my wall last night as the true test to see if I was happy with it. It passed, I wanted to keep it and leave it there. I will be sad to see this baby go.

Recently my husband and I attended our local chapter of the Trout Unlimited. It was a fun evening and good food. My husband and I donated a couple items, one item being a watercolor of a trout that I did. Sorry about the photo I fogot to take pictures before the framing so there is some glare. It was in the silent action and went for a fair amount. An an artist it is always nerve racking, thinking that no one will bid, but it is for a good cause and worth the risk and so far it has worked out great.

Large Buffalo Silk Painting

Hand painted silks are a very fun and different medium to work in. They can be framed or worn. I have done a few of both for myself. One piece that I am quite proud of is a painting I did of a buffalo. In 2000 we went on a family vacation to Yellowstone Park. I took many photographs of the beautiful wildlife and scenery. One such photo was of this large buffalo laying along side the road, this is him painted on a piece of silk that is close to 4 foot by 4 foot.

Studio Shot

I have been purging throughout my house. With three kids stuff just becomes stuff and not important. So I am attempting to simplify. If you knew me better you would know this is very hard to do. Included in this "cleaning out" of sorts has been my art studio. It is almost complete, a few more things to organize, use up, paint and add valances and "Whew!" we will be done. I have slowed down on the completion at this point due to needing to actually get some art done and kids starting school. I will post more of the finished product when it is done. Hope you enjoy a small peek into my space.

Yes, this is two days in a row I have posted, a new record. The fires here are blazing so it has been very unmotivating to go outside. The days are grey and smell like a campfire. There is ash on our cars and the sun is red. We are two weeks in and probably have another month or so of this. ugh

On a brighter note I have listed this new painting on etsy. This painting was taken from one of my flowers from my gardens when there were brighter days. I hope you enjoy and please visit my etsy shop to see more.

Another new wildlife painting.

We love camping as a family. We live in a very beautiful place in Montana, where camping is literally under an hour away. Our three kids love it, they have so much fun and get as dirty as humanly possible, we eat great food and have wonderful quality time together.

On one of our camping trips a bull moose walked leisurely into the river to get a drink and posed for many snaps of our cameras. Then proceeded to come towards us like we didn't exist and walk through our camp. It was quite amazing. This painting is of that very moose taken from one of my photos. He was so beautiful and awesome, I hope this painting does him justice. He will be available in my etsy shop soon. Let me know if you want first dibs.

Newest Painting

Here is a photo of one of my newest pieces. I so love this one I don't know if I can part with it. The colors, the drips and the abstract feel of this painting is everything that I love. This is what I hope to be moving towards as an artist. I will be posting some more paintings very soon.

I am now trying to dedicate myself to being a more serious blogger. With three kids and so many other responsibilities I have found this to be very challenging. My etsy shop has been up and running now for awhile and as we speak I am still trying to improve it. I am also working on listing some other places to hopefully get my art more attention. Again easier said than done. So please bear with me as I go through the growing pains of a struggling artist attempting to share my art with the world.

I am happy to announce a new ACEO project I am starting on. I will be featuring them in my etsy shop
I have set a goal to do four a week and as I finish them I will be listing them for sale in my etsy shop, so please look for them, they will be coming soon. If you have any requests or something you would like to see in either ACEO form or other please leave a comment.

Here are three more paintings that I did for the salon. Now I have a total of six, they have been getting a good response. The lily paintings always seem to be a good seller, this one is a little different than the others, I like the result. The red tulips are fun because of the long thin vertical canvas and I love the bright color. Lastly, I really like the pansy, I love doing them up close and the purples are reall fun.

Just completed these three pieces. They are all acrylic on gallery wrap canvas. I love painting flowers and using bold color. What is fun about these pieces while all being bright and colorful they are all very different. I have been having fun experimenting and trying new things. These are going to a very stylish, modern and beautiful salon. I did these pieces with the place in mind. These are all for sale. If you are interested in any of these or something like this, please post a comment and I will first see you in my email, include your email address and I will get to you shortly, I will not publish your post with your email. If you would like to just post a comment that would be great too, I'd love to hear from you all.

Just finished some silk scarves. The horse one was a commission piece bought to donate to our local Chamber of Commerce dinner. The Iris scarf and the Cherry scarf are in my most popular size 11x60. I just finished these two pieces for my etsy shop. On March 14th I have a showcase spot. I have been filling up my shop with some new pieces including these two scarves, ACEO cards and some new watercolors. Take a look and see what you think.

Here is an example of some of my watercolors. The floral you see is a negative painting. This is where you first drop in color on a wet paper, salt and let dry, letting nature take it's course. When it is dry you go back in and find shapes and flowers that you now define. This is a very fun process and the results are pretty and slightly abstract.
The fruit is also a watercolor. This too is done on watercolor paper. The colors are very fun and bright. The black or darker outline really make all the colors pop. Paintings done in both of these styles can be done special for you collection upon request. They can be shipped to you safely with no framing, that is left up to you and your own personal style and decor.
Please check out my new squidoo lens. You can leave feedback and rate me if you would like. It is a work in progress, So please keep checking back to see all the great changes. Thanks.

Works of the past, Would you like something similar?

These two pictures are of paintings I have done in the past. The lily has been very popular. It is fun, bold and bright , while at the same time modern and clean. The other painting is a piece that I have in my personal collection. I plan to do more of these in the future. It is a little more in the impressionistic style. I think common objects can make beautiful still lives. I like to inject unpredictable color into my paintings which I think you can see in this example.
You can check out some of my current work at Http:// Or if you are interested in paintings more like these, please contact me. I will consider commission work. If you like the style, subject or the colors in these paintings please let me know. Remember though, that each piece is an original so they are one of a kind , no two will ever be exactly alike. Thanks for looking I hope to hear from you soon.
