Being an artist, a painter for quite some time now, there is always a compelling need to stretch and change things up a bit. One of the ways I have done this is by experimenting with painting on different surfaces in which to apply color to. One such surface has been recycled grocery sacks, brown paper bags. I enjoy the way the paper has a bit of texture and the folds and creases only really add to the uniqueness and beauty of the painting. These particular paintings are also collectable ACEO cards, different from probably what you already have in your collection. If you don't collect cards, then they can be fabulous mini works of art that can be displayed in most any area of your space. Thanks for looking and enjoy.

The Art of Cooking

This is not about painting art but cooking art.... So this time of year when you now have a billion of tomatoes and the thought of freezing or canning more, makes your head spin and all your friends run when they see you coming with yet another bag, you know it is time to make homemade tomato soup and I have the best recipe for you, to some this may sound familiar as this is the 4Bs soup, I find that with the fresh tomatoes, since they are a bit sweet you can add less sugar. Here goes...

32 ounces of Canned diced tomatoes (for us gardeners, fresh)
9 ounces chicken broth
1 ounce Butter
2 TBLS sugar
1 TBLS chopped onion
1 pinch of Baking soda
2 Cups cream

Directions: Mix together everything but cream, and simmer 1 hour. Heat cream in double boiler, add cream to hot tomato mixture.

so delish...One piece of advice, at least make a double batch, I did a quadruple batch up to the cream part and froze it for winter, just take out, heat up and add cream.
If you try this recipe, please come back and post what you thought, thanks buon appetito

Greeting card, ACEO card and pretty envelope

card, ACEO, Envelope

Chatting with an artist friend of mine (check out her great shop ), she came up with this brilliant idea, we brainstormed it a bit more and this is what came about. She so generously let me share in the idea and do them also.
A blank greeting card that acts as a mat, for a removable ACEO card on the inside. It is all hand painted in watercolors on special watercolor paper cards. These are so fun.

Newest painting, finished yesterday, I really like how it turned out, may have to do another pear one soon.
This one is going directly to my new outlet for my art.
I was asked to bring in my work to a local art gallery/interior design place in town. It is very nice place that shows some beautiful fine art work in. I am very excited for this opportunity and hope that it leads to good things. I will keep you posted.

Also for donation

These earrings are going to the same cause as the painting below
I am slowly creating a new jewelry line, these are completely handcrafted, from cutting out the copper from sheets to hand bending the silver ear wires. They are completed with stamping and gemstones.

I recently painted this little 6x6 painting to donate to a local cause, South Valley Peds Family Center. It helps families in our area receive support and help, including families with children on the autistic spectrum, which is close to my heart since my daughter has Aspergers. I am hoping this painting will help fund this great cause.

Hello again

It has been so long since I have updated here, over a month. School got out and I have not stopped since and things don't look to be slowing down for yet another month and half. So I decided I needed to just make some time.
We just recently were on vacation in California, so I thought over the next few days I would post photos that inspired me from there.
This first photo is of a little flower shop in Sausalito, I love how in warmer climates flowers are always on the street. I took so many of such like photos. Breath deeply smell the pleasant sweetness in the air.

First Friday, Miss Zula's, Missoula, Montana this is where I will be tonight. I am very excited with a bit of butterflies to be showing my work.
It is a very nice oppurtunity. I will be showing for all of June and July so I am hoping to get a lot of exposure, if not a sale or two.
Above are the ads for the show and a picture of me that my son took surrounded by some of my paintings.
I tried to keep my art very reasonable, with the economy the way it is art is less of a need. I would rather have someone enjoying thier very own piece of original art in thier own space than have them gracing my home studio walls. As I am always paintings eventually I do run out of room, so I want to share.
So you know this is what first Friday is-- First Friday Gallery Night features various art exhibition openings between 15 and 20 galleries and museums from local and national artists the first Friday of every month from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Beautiful art, the opportunity to meet artists, complimentary appetizers and refreshments that creates a wonderful experience for both tourists and residents.
I wish you all could be there, but since I know you can't I will blog again to let you know how it is going.

It feels so Nice....

Another artist was viewing my blog (yes, again I see the importance of blogging) Anyway... she invited me to join a daily abstract painting blog

I checked it out and it is fabulous, such beautiful art. I am honored and inspired to be considered worthy of such fine art. I will keep you posted.

In the meantime, here is a photo of a painting I sold a couple of weeks ago...I was pleasantly surprised.

Sunflower Recycle art

Recently a customer came and purchased an Eco art piece, an acrylic painting of a sunflower.

These pieces have been fairly popular for a number of reasons. One is the recycling, green aspect of the art, these paintings are painted on brown paper grocery sacks from the store. Not only is the recycling part of it cool but it also has a nice look, the warmth and texture of the bag is appealing. Another reason is that it is unique and different and these are very easy and economical to ship to the buyer. The sunflower has been my most popular one. I think I stumbled on a nice color combo and loose way of painting them.

So back to the beginning of this story. The very nice customer was kind enough to write a awesome article on my shop that I would like to share with you
I thought Sue did a lovely job and I wanted to thank her.

Giving a shout out

Today I am doing something a bit different. I have recently met a fellow artist who has been pushing me (in a good way) to get it together and blog more. So in honor of him I am commiting myself to doing just that, I am excited and also feeling driven to really get more adventurous about my blogging. So if this is the first time seeing my blog or you have been checking in you are going to want to come back often because it is just getting good.

So I wish you happy reading and happy blogging.

Lastly in a grateful spirit to that fellow artist check out his blog, it is great and totally different than mine, which will probably make it even more fun for you, no matter how different two people are we can be united in art, now that is cool

As far as the picture for today, just another artist that inspires me, the famous glass artist

Chihuly, this is found in the ceiling at the Bellagio in Vegas, it is breathtaking, I love the colors, I could lay on the floor and stare at it for hours (but I do not think the staff at the fancy dancy hotel will let me, snobs lol)

I am trying to loosen up and do more landscapes, it is a bit of a challenge to me but since I love landscapes so much I thought I would push myslef, I am starting to come up with some that I am really happy with, including this one.

Commissioned spoon painting

An etsy friend of mine has taken up collecting a spoon for each season. This is the summer edition.
This is such a fun recycling project. I buy up old silver plated spoons, hand bend them to be freestanding and then paint on them, minitaure art. Each one is an original painting.

this one is actually signed

but still doesn't mean I am officially done now, may tweek the tiniest bit.
You will find this one is a bit different from the last one. I am finding it beneficial to actually take a photo of a painting and look at it for a bit, it helps me discover things. So the main thing that I changed is one of the back petals, I saw after staring at the photo it was not quite right, now I am much happier.

Some things don't always work...

As an artist some paintings work and some don't. When this happens you of course are not going to throw out the canvas, at this point you have two options, gesso it back to white or paint it some other backgound color. In this instance, I painted it black with glimmers of the original painting color peeking through here and there for some warmth. So now I am making a fresh start with an interesting background with some fun texture from the previous painting.

I have drawn out a tulip in white from a photograph from my yard. The tulip was originally pink but I am not sure what color I should paint it yet... back to the studio to find out, will post another picture after a bit.
