Day 27

Still painting. The 30 in 30 challenge has been fun but not always easy. As of this one I am all caught up. I have been proud though only ever getting one day behind. This month has been crazy busy with a lot of twists but I tried not to let this painting project be a stress. It has helped me to try some new projects I had put off  and also on some days paint fast and furious to try to get something done. Sometimes I really over think so it was nice to push myself realizing I don't really have time to think too much just do. So far two of the paintings have sold. So not bad and that is only from social media as they are not in etsy yet.

Here is another book page. I really like these. This is on an old worn out book from my kid's school library that would usually get stamped and toss. It is actually Little House on the Prairie it is so fun to paint on the pages of a old worn out book that was read for so many years bringing joy to young readers. I like that I could give these tattered pages new life.

Day 20

Hubby and I are away tonight. Our anniversary is in the summer so we were just too busy for a
mini anniversary trip so 2 months later we made it.
I am still keeping up with my paintings though.  I was able to sneak a few extras the other day. So here is 20

Day 19

A day late again but here is 19. Between errands and back to school night ran out of time and energy.

Day 18

Finally had a little extra time for the studio. Here is day 18

Day 17 30 in 30

So yesterday the kids all had a dentist appt and when we got home I was in no mood to paint. The dentist office is an hour away and it was a bit traumatic but not bad. We have to go back for two more visits for the girls. Ugh not fun. Anyway here is yesterday's painting. 6x6 $20.00 on acrylic paper.

Day 16 30 in 30

Another mini landscape 4x4 $15.00 on canvas paper.

Blackberry cobbler

Last week my son and I made my great grandmothers blackberry cobbler. It was fun to make it together and boy was it good. It calls for fat so you knew it would be good. I haven't used lard/Crisco in a recipe for ages, especially if you don't count her pie crust which too is the best calling for lard and oatmeal.
I also froze a bunch for winter yumminess.

Day 12 of 30 in 30

Finding my mood to be off. I was hoping for a resolution today but everything is still up in the air. I like things settled and in place and the whole limbo thing kinda is stressing me. I developed a cold sore and it is a pretty bad one. I really wish my body would find a better way to manage stress. So again painting is a struggle but I did another day.
I would love to do true abstracts but find it quite challenging. I can loosen up and maybe if I practice some more this way it will get easier. Here is day 12

Day 11 of 30 in 30

So the last few days have been kind of stressful so it was hard to get in the right mind set to paint. I did two paintings today but still a bit of a struggle. So here is day 11

Day 10 30 in 30 Daily Painting

So today didn't go as well as I would like so tomorrow I have a meeting. Did get some things done around the house. Made my great grandmother's blackberry cobbler recipe with my son. So good. Also I made some jewelry, a piece for me and for a local benefit auction.
First the watercolor painting
This is again a watercolor on vintage sheet music. Available for $25.00 leave your email in comments if interested.
This is the earrings and bracelet set for the benefit auction. I hope it brings a good amount for a great cause.
These are the present for me love the simplicity.

Day 9 30 in 30 Daily Painting

Today was an emotional roller coaster, so it was hard to concentrate on painting.  We have started into another school year. My 3rd grader is settled in and excited about everyday. My high schooler has decided to do another year of home school and is getting back in routine.  My middle daughter with Aspergers is in 6 th and does not want to go at all.  We are trying a longer schedule of 2:30 instead of 11:30 and trying to encourage riding the special Ed bus. The longer schedule is quite challenging and we are still not sure it will hold. We are at least trying to get through the week. The bus thing was a disaster that led to much crying and frustration. There was a little delay in time since it is a new schedule and the other child on the bus is moving and talking the whole time and she was disturbed by the other child joyfully repeating her name the whole trip  incorrectly. So this is the opposite of a personality that she can tolerate, especially at the end of a stressful day. By the time she got off the bus I was informed it was the worse experience of her life among other things. So I let it pass and everything to calm down, I am finally learning. Later in the evening when everyone was less emotional I made a phone call and found out the bus driver can fit it in her schedule to bring Olivia home alone before picking up the other child. So tomorrow we will start again, make a few more phone calls and hope for a better outcome.
In between I painted.
Watercolor on vintage sheet music. $25.00 leave a comment with email if interested in purchasing.

Day 8 30 in 30 Daily Painting.

So today I think I caught my daughter's cold, she got over the worst of it pretty fast so I hope I do too. This morning I pretended it was still yesterday and painted day 7 and this afternoon I did day 8 and here it is. Another watercolor on vintage sheet music. This time a sweet little birdy.
It is available for sale for $30.00 please leave an email in the comments and I will get back to you.

Day 7 30 in 30 in September Daily Painting

So yes you are reading this right, it is a day late. This was the painting in my head to do yesterday but did not have the energy to get it on paper. Yesterday I did the Dirty Dash in Missoula with my family and some good friends. I had not physically prepared but since it is more for fun and to have mud fights with the people you know and love I did fine. It is really fun and something that my 16 year old son really enjoys that we can take part in together. We dress up and act like we are all kids again. Plus part of the money you spend which for all you get out of it is relatively low goes to a great cause the CASA of Missoula.
So when I got home the bruises and sore muscles were already showing up. So I filed the painting away in my head for this morning.
It is another watercolor on vintage sheet music.
This too is available for sale for $25.00 please leave your email in comments

Day 6 30 in 30 Daily Painting

Tried something new I have been wanting to try for awhile. I have been wanting to paint on vintage sheet music and book pages. It is a little challenging painting the watercolors on this type of paper but I really like the result. I hope to do more of this repurposing soon.
This is available for sale for $25.00 if you would like this please leave a email in the comments.

Day 5 30 in 30 Daily Painting

Almost feel like this is the official start. 5th day in and feeling good. First time I really got in the groove in my studio, painting with music, rain and no interruptions. Wow unheard of this whole summer.
6x6 on cradled board $45.00 if interested in purchasing please leave your email in the comments.

Day 4 of 30 in 30 Daily Painting

So here is another painting post right before bed and again it is still wet. We made it through a second day of school. (See I have three great kids. Each with there own gifts and talents. My middle child has Aspergers. Around here we have learned to take one day at a time, for we are not sure what each day holds and it all can change in a instant. Each day at school is an accomplishment. Our daughter does not only have pretty severe social anxieties but also struggles with academics and phobias. So when I say she made it through another day of school it is a huge deal. I know the fretting and worry on my part doesn't change anything but that doesn't mean I can make it go away. So right now to say that I made it through another day and actually did a painting is a pretty big deal for me right now too).  So here is my offering for today. It is one I dabbled with during day 1 and 2 but didn't complete until minutes ago.
This one too is available for sale for $20.00 5x7 on watercolor paper. Please leave your email in the comments and I will get back to you.

My brain has been so worn out from the nessecary things of my family it has completely checked out. So today when I went to the movies I had my mom pick me up an hour early, why? Because I was completely an hour off. We got there and I couldn't figure out why the parking lot was empty. Oops sorry mom. Glad the movie was good. Go see The Butler. Wow, it was worth seeing.

Day 3 of 30 in 30 Daily painting in September

I did this painting plein air on my back deck. I started it in the sunshine before going to pick up my girls from their first day of school. I left it lie to go get them and while I was gone it rained. No real damage done though. Many hours later after school pickup, errands, treats to celebrate first day, dinner, clean up and going over school things, I finally was able to finish it. It was still wet when I took the photo.
5x7 watercolor This is available for sale for $20.00 if interested leave your email in the comments,  I will contact you.

September 1 First day of 30 days of Painting

I knew this first day would be hard but I had to paint and post something or I would have felt defeated.
I was out of town for the weekend but before I left my sisters this morning I decided to do a couple sketches in her yard. Later this evening when I got home this was the one I finished.
I think the colors are nice.
This is a ACEO which is 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 it is watercolor on watercolor paper.
I hope to soon put a Buy it now bottom on my blog as I am hoping to make most paintings available for sale. Until then if you would like this please leave your email in the comments and I will get back to you. This painting is $10.00

September Project - 30 days of painting

So for me this is a pretty grand endeavor.  For the month of September I am going to attempt a painting a day.  I have joined up with a artist on her blog along with over 200 other artists
The kids are starting school on on the 3rd, which leaves a lot of unknowns especially for Olivia as we are not sure how long of a day she can do.  The month starts on Sunday and I won't even be in town.  I am running the Dirty Dash this month, which is a 5k (by the way I did not prepare at all), I am starting to get a little scared.  I also have an all day bible convention towards the end of the month.  Also a number of events in between, including a benefit dinner that I am making a donation for.  In between everything hubby and I are trying to go out of town for a night or two to make up for our Anniversary in July that we were too busy to celebrate.
Needless to say this is good and bad timing.  I am trying not to get stressed because that is not the idea.  I am hoping some of the good will be forced daily painting time.  Painting is a good stress relief from daily life and I tend to get so busy with getting through the day I don't make time to paint.  Also the daily engaging in painting is such great practice to make me a better painter.
So hopefully starting on the 1st you will see a daily painting here from me.  Probably with a little blurb as I tend to be wordy.  I hope you will enjoy.

Watching my garden grow

I love seeing things grow. I had some flowers that did really good this year.
The colorful sweet peas that smell heavenly were spring seeds.
The gorgeous mini purple clematis was a fall planting and did better than I ever dreamed.
My wild perrineal sweet peas did amazing and are still blooming. They are the  pink you see by the hollyhocks and sunflowers at the edge of the deck. I learned something about them this year. They will grow as high as you have them trellised and will continue to bloom all the way up. So the taller they are the longer the blooming time.
The hollyhocks are along the side of the house with my garden. This is a much more contained year, if you have ever grown them you know they will take over. This photo was taken before a big wind. They have now since been pruned back. I do though love the height.
Lastly is a beautiful rose that is on a arbor over my front walk.
All summer I have fought the deer to keep my pretty blooms. The sweet peas and roses seem to be a highlight for them.
I have been able to squeeze in 2 sessions of plein air painting in my garden. I hope to do quite a few though in September. If I do I will post them here.

Other half of the bundle...

I know it is seriously pretty. What two fantastic finds. Now where do I want it?!

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

New Studio Addition

I have always wanted a dress form, but they are hard to find and usually more than I wanted to pay. After all these years I finally came across one actually for sale and I had a little cash stuck away that I could buy it. Of course as all bargain hunters I tried to get it lower and we settled somewhere in between. This one has a wood base instead of a iron one which was a little disappointing but it is still nice. She has some character and is definitely vintage and well traveled, originating in Brooklyn, New York. I can't wait to use her as a prop for photos and maybe even fit a few things on her.
There is though one more twist to the story. The lady was selling a ton of items out of two storage units, most out of my price range. We did however pull out a rug from an old trunk. It was a small rug she had brought home from Morocco. She gave me a price and I countered with a bundle price for both. She accepted and the rest is history. I am very happy with my two purchases and feel like I got a pretty good bargain. Here is a photo of the dress form and I will try to get one of the rug tomorrow.

Rethinking lost furniture.

It is so fun rethinking lost shabby pieces and giving them new life into something great and usable. Here is such a furniture story. This $3.00 garage sale desk, was missing pieces, had damage on side from dog trying to get to a cat underneath and it's finish was quite lacking. I couldn't decide if I wanted to keep it as a desk or completely change it.  As you can see I went with the latter idea. So here goes.
Original desk.
Letting my daughter get in on the sawing fun.
Completed sawing and now adding trim to cover blemishes and finish it nicely.
Here they are finished, painted up ready for one for each girl's room. They have really nice height to them and lots of storage.

How does my garden grow?

This year quite wildly. I tried a few new things this year, some worked some didn't. I let some things get out of hand, which included mint and cosmos. Tamed my hollyhocks a bit this year though and finally was not overrun by sunflowers. Each year is a learning process for sure. I will definitely change some things up next year. I am getting some good yummy things though and I will be harvesting my large supply of greens soon. All in all a good year for no matter what I love seeing things grow.
